Online Petition for a Cleaner Air - Stop Smoke Belching Now!

Dear Friends,

I signed an online petition to urge our government leaders to stop smoke belching in EDSA and other major roads in Metro Manila. You might want to also sign this petition (http://cleanairinitiative.org/edsa).

Here's the text:

We urge our national and local leaders to mount a serious and sustained enforcement effort to remove smoke belchers along major roads in Metro Manila, starting with EDSA, in the first 100 days after the May elections.

Air pollution is responsible for nearly 5,000 deaths in Metro Manila each year (1). People who live within 500 meters from a major road are likely to be exposed to critical levels of air pollution (2), which implies that our families, friends, neighbors, employees, and customers are at a significantly greater risk of asthma, lung diseases, heart attacks, and cancer (3). Walking, biking or driving along these roads makes us more vulnerable to air pollution … and riding an air conditioned vehicle offers no protection (4).

We are fully aware that smoke belching vehicles are a significant source of air pollution (5) and that smoke belchers are breaking the law (6). They must not be allowed to run on the streets and pollute the air that we and our children breathe.

P.S. During my college days, I already presented a research paper on Clear Air Act or R.A. 8749. Now after several years, in my Law schooling, a new research on the same topic will be again be presented by my group. Would there be any changes in the air quality here in Manila than the previous years? Or the other way around?

Lessons from the Noah's Ark

ONE: Don't miss the boat.

TWO: Remember that we are all in the same boat.

THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

SIX: Build your future on high ground.

SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.

TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

ELEVEN: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

Happy 33rd Civil Wedding Monthsary to my Beloved Wife!!!

Oh, I enjoyed taking pictures of the flowers and here's the recipient of those flowers :-)

2011 RunRio Trilogy Leg 1: Unilab Run United 1 - My Race Kit

Finally, after all the odds with the 21K event registration for Run United Leg 1, I received this morning my 21K race kit which includes singlet, bib number, d-tag and the unilab kit :-)

Despite the time constraints and the continuing body recovery from my first 21k run last February 6, 2011 at the Condura Skyway Marathon 2011, I am very excited to run again in the Run United Leg 1 on March 6, 2011.

My runner's toe injuries just recently been healed with the help of my medications and I will hopefully start my two weeks training by next week until March 4th. A day before the event should be a rest day :-)

See you around guys!
