Running Motivations

It's February 1st, 2011... several days to go before the Condura Skyway Marathon 2011. It will be my first 21Km run and I am nervous about it.

To make me motivated I look on to one of my favorite running site and I would like to share to you these running motivations.

Got enough marathon motivation to push you across the finish line? It’s one thing to be motivated to start training, it’s another to stay motivated every day.

Training the mind should be considered equally important to physical marathon training. Following are a few simple techniques to help build mental toughness and create the proper mindset.

Visualization

Marathon Visualization CD Set aside a few minutes each day, or at least a few times each week, to relax and picture in your mind the runner you want to be. Picture yourself making a great training run or running the actual race. As you are creating that image, try to get other senses involved by trying to feel what it will feel like to achieve your goal or push through any obstacles you envision.

Affirmations

Flood your mind with positive thoughts by talking to yourself every day. Tell yourself that you are a marathon runner, a sub-four hour marathoner, or whatever it is your goal might be. Our minds operate in the present so the more we tell ourselves something, even if it is not yet true, the faster our mind believes it and begins working now to make that affirmation a reality. Also, put an affirmation, race brochure, or inspiring quote somewhere you will see it every day like on your desk or bathroom mirror.

Block the Negative

Be aware of negative thoughts creeping into your mind. When you catch them, stop them cold in their tracks by telling yourself the opposite. For instance, if you catch yourself thinking you are tired during a run, tell yourself several times, with emphasis, that you feel great or feel strong. Do the same for any pain during a run. By telling yourself the opposite, you are diverting your focus from the negative to the positive.

Over the course of training, you may find yourself lacking motivation at some point. This is very common. Maybe you get discouraged because unexpected events have caused you to miss a run, a few runs, or even a week or more of runs. Maybe something in your life diverts your focus from training and your goal. Whatever the case, do not let it stop you from achieving your goal!

Think of supporters cheering you on as you run with ease through the marathon or half marathon. Think about how rewarding it will be when you cross the finish line and reflect on what you have just accomplished.

Surround yourself with positive, motivating things. Watching running movies is great for marathon motivation. Find something that connects with you emotionally and you will find that your intensity and desire will grow to where you don’t just want to achieve your goal, you have to achieve your goal.

Take a step back and think about why you have set this monster goal for yourself and see yourself enjoying all the benefits you expect to have once you accomplish your goal.

Condura Skyway Marathon 2011 Race Maps for 10km,16km and 21km

For the whole year of 2010, I have run several 5km events and a 10km run to conclude the year. The big question now is, Am I ready to run the next level? 15km? or 21km?

The Condura Skyway Marathon 2011 which is scheduled to be on February 6, 2011 is one of the well-established marathon in the country. With this reputation, I am confident that the organizers will be giving a very good event, and this makes me think if I will take the challenge of running my first half-marathon (21km) on February 6th.

Below are the race maps for 10km, 16km and 21km categories. I will only be posting the following categories because these are within my running distances as of now.

The 10km, 16km and 21km events will all start at the Ayala Avenue, Makati City and will end at the Bonifacio Global City.

Earth Run 2010

My first 5K run during the Run for Home 2010 was so great! It inspired me to go further even with several physical limitations.

So, on April 18, 2010 I will again join a 5K event -- The Earth Run 2010, the beneficiary of this marathon is Greenpeace.

The event will be held at the Bonifacio Global City grounds. Assembly time starts 4:00 AM. Start time for 5K is 6:00 AM.

Run for Home 2010

I will be joining the Run for Home 2010 sponsored by Globe and Ayala Land on March 21, 2010. This will be my first Marathon so I have to prepare for it. Sharing you some important pointers from the organizers site.

GET READY FOR YOUR FIRST MARATHON

The marathon is great for people who want a different challenge and a fun workout. These tips will help you prepare and go the distance for a marathon or any long-distance running event.

1. CONDITION YOUR BODY

To avoid muscle pain or serious injuries, keep yourself in top physical condition. Stretch out and exercise regularly. Do short sprints around the neighborhood, and extend your run to longer distances. By the marathon's date, you'll be fit enough to finish the race.

2. GET THE RIGHT GEAR

Running shoes and clothes are more than just for looking good. They not only keep you comfortable, but also protect you from harsh elements. Here are some suggestions when looking for the proper gear:
• Running shoes provide support and comfort during the run. Try to buy the best running shoes you can afford. Good running shoes have adequate cushioning, a good fit, and are made of sturdy materials.

• Layers. Singlets, shorts, and running tights do more than just identify you on the race course. Lightweight, breathable fabrics wick away moisture from the body, and keep you cool and comfortable as you run.

• Hydration. Sports drinks or water should always be on hand to keep your body cool. Keep them on hand with a hydration belt.

• Sunscreen and accessories. Sunblock and sunscreen help protect you from ultraviolet rays. Sunglasses keep the glare out of the road, giving you a clearer view of the course. If you have long hair, wear a cap or a headband to wick away sweat that may get into your eyes.

3. WATCH WHAT YOU EAT

Carbohydrates are a great source of energy that you need for a marathon, and protein helps build the muscles needed to withstand the race. Avoid junk food and empty calories. Energy bars and protein shakes can also help satisfy your sugar cravings.

4. STRETCH AND COOL DOWN

Treat a marathon as a vigorous exercise. To prevent unnecessary injuries, stretch before the run, and cool down after.

5. GET YOURSELF INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY.

Many clubs and organizations help novices and beginners get started in the sport. You can learn a lot from veterans of distance running, as well as form new friendships on the track.

6. ENJOY

Marathons keep your body fit, test your limits, and help you enjoy the fine art of running. With these tips, you can make it your quest to go the distance in more races to come.

The thrill of crossing the finish line first may be the ultimate goal, but the best reward is finishing and enjoying the race. Have fun, and take in as much of the scenery and the experience as you can.
