Remembering 1st Semester for SY 2010-2011

Final exams are fast approaching, in a few days it will be October 2010. And the 1st semester for the school year 2010-2011 will be over. With this, I would like to reminisce the events in the early part of the semester.

Well, supposedly I should be enrolling at San Sebastian College, Institute of Law. All preparations goes well, my entrance exam, interview and requirements but not until on the enrollment week when I finally started the enrollment process at San Sebastian.

As a public University graduate, I am used to long lines during enrollment, all I believe is those scenes should be in the state universities and schools but I was mistaken, it was also the same with the private schools.

What made it worse is that most convenient subjects for working student like are almost unavailable or closed at the 4th  day of enrollment. And to add up the inconvenience, it seems that nobody from the dean's office can help in the closed subject schedules. With that, I need to decide and think for other options.

So, I inquired to the University of the East, College of Law and immediately I decided to take their Entrance Exam. Time is running up because classes start on June 15 and on that day is my entrance exam. Luckily, in one day, I took the entrance exam, I have my interview with the college dean and before 5PM that day I was officially enrolled. And at 7:30 PM I am at my first class in Law School.

IQ Test

 Your Type is: Precision Processor

Your IQ Score is: 149
You've got a very experiential way of learning and a strong mathematical mind. You're able to whittle even the most complex situation down to comprehensible component parts. In short, you have mastered the art and science of precision. That's what makes you a Precision Processor.

General IQ Score

Your General IQ Score of 149 shows how able your mind is in general. Anyone with a General IQ Score this high is considered to be a genius. This score is better than 99.95% of all persons taking this test. All known occupations can be comprehended with a General IQ this high. You should be able to handle any academic challenges.
You scored higher than your General IQ Score in 6 individual ability categories. 3 of these better scores could be called statistically significant and may indicate special abilities, or that you were distracted on those parts of the IQ Test that counted more heavily in the other ability categories.

Arithmetic

Solving many of the IQ Test's problems required the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers mentally. Many mental tasks require arithmetical operations even though numbers may not be involved, and thus number manipulation abilities can strongly indicate general intelligence.
Your Arithmetic IQ score of 160 is exceptionally higher than your General IQ score. This score is better than greater than 99.99% of all persons taking this test.

Spatial Skill

Understanding what changes will occur when conditions vary is a deep and powerful ability of the mind. All invention and creativity of every sort is based upon this ability. Although test problems usually involve manipulation of objects in space, persons with a stronger ability to spatially manipulate can also be expected to use this ability to be able to better predict how social and psychological situations would change due to variation.
Your Spatial Skill IQ score of 164 is exceptionally higher than your General IQ score. This score is better than greater than 99.99% of all persons taking this test.

Logical

This is the ability to determine if a set of rules has been correctly followed. This ability is most useful in combination with other mental skills listed above. Those with strong logical ability are quicker to see where a given set of conditions is going to lead, have a strong sense of justice, and better understand--from an intellectual analysis--the benefits of harmony.
Your Logical IQ score of 160 is exceptionally higher than your General IQ score. This score is better than greater than 99.99% of all persons taking this test.

Spelling

The ability to spell can indicate general intelligence. Remembering a set sequence of letters indicates the mind's ability to retrieve remembered facts. Learning how to spell and use the words of a language is almost a complete IQ test in itself. Although poor spellers with high IQ scores can be found, it is rare, and in general--everything else being equal--the better spellers have higher IQ scores.
Your Spelling IQ score of 144 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.83% of all persons taking this test.

Short Term Memory

The ability to remember things for a short period of time allows the mind to check back and retrieve facts needed to complete a problem solving operation. This ability becomes more critical when problems have many aspects that need consideration and/or need to be solved mentally. This ability strongly determines how efficiently one handles the many aspects of normal life. If your short term memory ability is strong you are much less likely to seem inattentive or "slow to get it" to others.
Your Short Term Memory IQ score of 133 is significantly lower than your General IQ score. This score is better than 98.61% of all persons taking this test.

Rote Utilization

This is the ability to take a set of memorized facts and mentally extract and/or operate with or upon the facts within the set that are pertinent to the problem at hand. Persons with more of this ability can be expected to spell well, remember telephone and other numbers easily, be more adroit in procedural operations, and have a stronger foundation for tasks that require the use of memorized material.
Your Rote Utilization IQ score of 152 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.97% of all persons taking this test.

Algebraic

This is the ability of the mind to abstractly handle quantities and qualities. Persons who are strong in this ability can more quickly and more deeply understand analogies, stories, derivations, equalities, and hierarchical structures.
Your Algebraic IQ score of 144 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.83% of all persons taking this test.

General Knowledge

Knowledge that is casually picked up and remembered can indicate intelligence, because persons with higher intelligence will exhibit greater retention of those pieces of information that are encountered less often. Because higher intelligence allows a person to have a deeper appreciation of the connectivity of facts that may seem disparate to others of lesser intelligence, memory of such facts becomes easier.
Your General Knowledge IQ score of 152 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.97% of all persons taking this test.

Visual Apprehension

This is the ability of the mind to mentally picture visual information and to be able to extract portions of that information for separate use. A person whose visual apprehension is strong enjoys a richer, more creative appreciation of visual aspects of experiences.
Your Visual Apprehension IQ score of 146 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.89% of all persons taking this test.

Geometric

How well one can comprehend geometric relationships of lines, sides, planes, angles, and topological properties strongly determines one's ability to make sense of visual information. The strength of one's geometric ability can strongly determine how quickly knowledge can be absorbed if it is presented visually.
Your Geometric IQ score of 144 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.83% of all persons taking this test.

Vocabulary

Knowing the meaning of words is an ability that directly increases along with the increase of general intelligence. The meaning of a word is more easily remembered with higher intelligence, because it takes more intelligence to understand and correctly use words based upon the subtle differences between words with similar meanings and to comprehend difficult concepts which are sometimes symbolized by a single word.
Your Vocabulary IQ score of 144 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.83% of all persons taking this test.

Intuition

Intuition is defined as that ability of the mind to develop answers to questions without consciously dealing with the problem at hand. Often a question will provoke your mind to answer without using conscious processing time, and the answer is said to come "out of the blue" or "suddenly, it just struck me". Of all the many abilities of the mind, this is one of the most often used. Just knowing what to do is often an automatic process that occurs without much conscious figuring. Those with stronger intuition make less mistakes and can seem luckier, wiser, or more mature.
Your Intuition IQ score of 156 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.99% of all persons taking this test.

Computational Speed

If you can correctly solve a variety of problems faster than another person, you may be demonstrating a generally more orderly internal arrangement of your mind's problem solving methods. While speed cannot be the sole factor in determining overall superiority in one mental operations, in general faster computational speed will often indicate that a problem's comprehension was more complete. With everything else being equal, a person with faster computational speed than another person's will be better at tasks that require the synthesis of many bits of information.
Your Computational Speed IQ score of 138 is significantly lower than your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.44% of all persons taking this test.

Training for A Race #2

Running for a race takes more than just owning a pair of rubber shoes and signing-up for a race. You have to be sure that you are physically fit to run, have the proper running gear, and go under training before entering a big race especially for those who are just beginners. As many would say, preparation is always key.

Getting started on a training program can be very difficult for many especially those who are not physically active or those who don’t have a regular exercise routine. After convincing yourself that you’ll start training, you throw in the towel and call it a day the moment you feel your legs aching and your lungs hurting

So how do you get started? Before picking a training program or entering a race like the Run for Pasig River on 10.10.10, you have to set your goals on what you want to achieve and find a good motivation to keep you going. Do you want to join a marathon eventually? Are you running for health reasons? Are you just doing this for leisure? Or are you running to advocate a good cause? The point is you have to have a goal that will keep you going and running.

After setting your goals, you can now begin looking for a training plan that is fit for you. If you’re new to the sport, a lot of professional runners would suggest starting with a 5k training program or run.

Some Reminders Before You Start
1.    Start slow. Too many people have failed in their attempt to train themselves effectively because they start too fast and train too hard. You should ease your training plan according to your body’s capability gradually increasing your regular running pace to achieve the 5K competency.

2.    Stick to the plan. Don’t try to skip ahead of the training program. When you get impatient, stop yourself from advancing to the next level of training to avoid burn out.

3.    Repeat if needed. If your body feels pressured to continue with the training and if you feel that you can’t cope up with the plan, avoid moving to the next level of training. Maintain the current week of your running plan, and go ahead with the training when your body is capable.

4.    Don’t forget to stretch. Start and end your training sessions with stretching exercises to avoid any injuries. Injuries can have unfavorable effects on your training schedule and render you incapable to continue your bid to run.

5.    Warm ups are important. After stretching at the start of your training session, proceed with a 5-10 minutes of warm up – either an easy jog or a walk would do. This will loosen up your leg muscles to achieve maximum efficiency in your actual training.

6.    Take your rests. Rest days are as important as training days in your routine. Don’t take rest days as “nothing” days. Make it as a program to make time for your muscles to rest and recover after days of training. It will equip your muscles enough time to build and recuperate for the next training session.

7.    The goal. Your minimum goal is to run and finish the 5K event and not to race it, so don’t be too hard on your body.

8.    Rest before the race. Take about 2 to 3 days of rest before the actual run. By rest, I am not referring to inactive rest, but rest from training. You can engage in activities like swimming, biking or jogging, just make sure that the intensity of your activity is lower than your training course.

9.    Don’t try anything new on the race day. This includes new running shoes, socks, shoelaces, shirts, shorts or pants, foods and drinks, etc. If you really wanted to use your new gears, be sure to use them on your training runs 2 to 3 weeks before the race.

5-week Training Program for 5km Run

5k training is a fun way to start running, lose weight, and feel great. It is also not as time consuming as marathon or half marathon training.

If you are new to running, then go ahead and get yourself a new pair of running shoes. I cannot stress enough the importance of having a comfortable pair of running shoes while training for a 5k or any other running event. They reduce the impact on your legs and joints while helping to avoid, or reduce, back pain. Visit your local running store to get fitted by experts. Having a good pair of running shoes will also make you feel like a runner which will give you added motivation during a 5k training program.

Below is a 5-week training schedule. If you are new to running, then the 5-week schedule is a safe program to get you started and prepare you for a fun 5k race.

Happy Birthday Honey!

It's the 5th of September, my wife's birthday today!

As we are just two of us here in  Manila, we will have a simple celebration with our favorite food such as Ube Cake, Penne Spaghetti (Filipino style), Elbow Macaroni Sweet Salad (Filipino style) and the usual food for birthdays here in the Philippines, Pancit Bihon.

It makes me hungry, it is still preparation time, so gonna go and join in the cooking.

Lastly, I would like to share our recipe for the Filipino style Macaroni Sweet Salad:

Ingredients:
400 grams Elbow Macaroni (pack)
500 grams Fruit Cocktail (can)
300 ml Condensed Milk (can)
300 ml Mayonnaise (Pouch/Bottle)
250 ml All Purpose Cream (Tetra pack)
350 ml Nata de Coco (Bottle)
350 ml Kaong (Bottle)

Preparation:
1. Boil enough water for the Macaroni. Put some salt and oil prior to boiling the water. When the water boils, put the elbow macaroni and wait until it become al dente (occasionally stir while boiling to avoid stick up).

2. Drain the elbow macaroni (no need to wash with running water, the salt will add up to the flavor).

3. Put the mayonnaise to the drained macaroni, mixed and spread evenly the mayonnaise. (use big mixing bowl)

4. Then put the Fruit Cocktail, Nata de Coco, Kaong, Condensed Milk and All Purpose Cream. Mix all  ingredients thoroughly.

5. You can add sliced cheese (cube), raisins, pili nuts, macadamia nuts, if desired (for additional flavor and presentation).

6. Transfer to a container and chill before serving.
