Last Post for 2010 - Happy New Year 2011!!!

Five (5) minutes to midnight! It's new year 2011! This is my last post for the year 2010. Thank you God for the year we had, though good and bad.

Welcome year 2011! God bless us all in every days of our lives! Happy New Year from me and my family to yours!

Last Run for the Year 2010

Today is December 31, 2010, the last day of the year and I wanted to end my year running!

But before starting my routine, I dropped by the Most Holy Redeemer Church Parish Office to offer Thanksgiving Mass from our family for the year 2010 and for the upcoming year 2011.

The Most Holy Redeemer Church
The church is actually along my running route near our residence. I like the area because there are less people and vehicles plying the streets, Araneta Avenue which is part of my route is a wide road with spacious sidewalks where I can run safely.

The uphill portion of the route
The downhill portion
Along Araneta Avenue
The long winding road
Cloudy day, 31st December 2010
It was a light 30 minutes run and walk routine for today. Especially that I have my digital camera on hand while running.

Looking forward for another running year! Have a healthy, wealthy and happy New Year to all!

Condura Skyway Marathon 2011 Finisher Medals

The Condura Skyway Marathon in its 4th year of staging this prestigious event has the following mission as published in their Facebook Fan page:

Mission: To give every runner a one-of-a-kind running experience by running along the Skyway, and to raise funds to help Baclayon, Bohol - the dolphin capital of the Philippines.

The second part of their mission is being guaranteed with this statement from the organizers; "Condura guarantees that 50 pesos of the registration fee is donated to the beneficiary. That's about 6 percent of collections. In addition, any surplus after subtracting collections less expenses will be donated . The report on the amount donated as well as what the donation was used for is in the Condura Skyway Marathon web site."

The first part of their mission is also being guaranteed by the 1,000 people who will be part of the organizers in staging this event. And the following Finisher's Medal for all categories will make all runners proud and jubilant in their cause-worthy achievement.

Condura Skyway Marathon 2011 Race Maps for 10km,16km and 21km

For the whole year of 2010, I have run several 5km events and a 10km run to conclude the year. The big question now is, Am I ready to run the next level? 15km? or 21km?

The Condura Skyway Marathon 2011 which is scheduled to be on February 6, 2011 is one of the well-established marathon in the country. With this reputation, I am confident that the organizers will be giving a very good event, and this makes me think if I will take the challenge of running my first half-marathon (21km) on February 6th.

Below are the race maps for 10km, 16km and 21km categories. I will only be posting the following categories because these are within my running distances as of now.

The 10km, 16km and 21km events will all start at the Ayala Avenue, Makati City and will end at the Bonifacio Global City.

2010 A Year That Was - Review of our Life (part 2)

So far, year 2010 is one of my worst and BEST year in my twenty eight years of existence. Let me talk about the BEST for now and not the about the worst.

It has been my childhood dream to become a lawyer that's the reason why I have taken up Bachelor of Political Science Major in Public Administration as my college course at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, this would be my pre-law course.

But then due to financial reasons, I was not able to pursue my law proper immediately after college graduation. After several years of focusing my attention to my work and of course to my personal life, the sweetest thing happened to my life this year! And that's when my parents-in-law decided to help me enroll for my law schooling. Good things in life come when you least expected, that's proven!

With that, I immediately inquired to several law schools about their requirements, tuition fees and other matters. My first option then was the San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Institute of Law. Aside from being a Catholic school, they offer low tuition fees comparing to other law schools.

After submitting my application as well as other documents, I have undertaken their entrance exam and the interview by their Guidance Counselor. I both passed the exam and interview so on enrollment week, I tried to enroll with night subjects because I still need to work while studying. But things did not worked out, convenient subject schedules are already closed and their enrollment process seemed to be not student friendly.

So, after hours and days of thinking, I finally decided not to continue enrolling at San Sebastian College instead I inquired at the University of the East, College of Law as a good friend of mine suggested.

With big contradiction to the process of San Sebastian College, I was able to take my entrance exam, have my interview, enroll my subjects and attend to my first day of class at the UE College of Law in a matter of one day! That was June 15, 2010.

Law school is not a joke, you have to deal with all the hardships, study loads, case readings, daily recitations, long written exams, humiliation, body and brain fatigue among others. Luckily I survived my First Semester and despite the continuing financial troubles, I boldly enrolled for the Second Semester of School Year 2010-2011 last November.

And you know what? Great sacrifices makes Sweeter Success! Before the end of December classes I received this letter from the College of Law Dean Valdez;

The letter of invitation from the Dean

The fruit of my First Semester sacrifices and burning my midnight oil was awarded at the College of Law Paskuhan 2010 at the Aberdeen Court, Great Eastern Hotel in Quezon City last December 16, 2010.
My certificate of recognition
The awarding ceremony

The sweetest thing that happened to me this year became more and more sweet because of this Christmas Recognition from our College Dean. Thanks be to God! And my endless gratitude to all who have supported me, my family, my wife and my parents-in-law. I love you guys!

More than two months ago, we joined the 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River organized by ABS-CBN with the golden goal of rejuvenating the now polluted and almost dead Pasig River and its tributaries.

And along with this goal was also to break a Guinness World Record in having the most participants in a foot race event, one hundred sixteen thousand and eighty six (116, 086) runners, students, employees and ordinary citizens answered the call and now it is official!!!

The 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River held in Manila was already officially recognized by Guinness World Records as shown in the certificate below.

The Guinness Certificate

The Envelope

It feels great to be running for a cause and we are proud to be counted in this endeavor of cleaning up the Pasig River. We all hope that someday if not in these days, our very own Pasig river will be clean, green and alive again. This can be done if we all work together, united in this objective.

During the post race program, hosted by Luis and Karylle

Until the next run for Pasig River, maybe 11.11.11 this time around? See you on the road guys!

~I consider this running event the most significant bloggable event that happened to me this year with so many reasons. I am proud to be a part of this endeavor as well as the feat of breaking a world record!

Indeed a great running year that was, three 5 km races and a 10 km run to conclude year 2010. I would like to share some running motivational quotes to inspire us more!

"You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement."
- Steve Prefontaine

"I always loved running...it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs."
-Jesse Owens

"In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, 'I have finished.' There is a lot of satisfaction in that."
-Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon co-founder

"We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves...The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, 'You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.' The human spirit is indomitable."
-Sir Roger Bannister, first runner to run a sub-4 minute mile

"Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it."
-Oprah Winfrey

Hello Blogging World!

It's a 4-day long Christmas weekend here in the Philippines, December 24th a special non-working holiday (Christmas Eve), December 25th a regular holiday (Christmas Day), December 27th a declared regular holiday in commemoration of Rizal Day which is traditionally celebrated on December 30th.

With the long vacation from work and school, I have spent the last two days in updating my blog. Also, I have the leisure to browse a lot of materials and sources in the internet as well as to look into other blogs and websites.

My blog which was created early February this year merely got several improvements through the eleven months of its existence, this was because of my loaded schedules of work, school and running events as well as trainings.

Lastly, I would like to welcome you all to my newly updated blog. Please feel free to drop any comment or message. I would love to hear from all of you.

Happy holidays and a Peaceful and Prosperous New Year to all of us!

It's Christmas! Long holidays again, I love it! And as I spend my vacation updating my blog, I happened to browse the lovely website Kero's Celebration with the above blog contest and an exciting reward awaits the two lucky winners!

I instantly became interested in joining the contest because of the great prize of 3 neckties from Tiecoon.com, I would love the following neckties for me;
Red herringbone striped necktie with blue and grey stripes
Navy blue herringbone striped necktie with sky blue, royal blue and yellow detailed stripes

Profound black tie with navy blue and light blue alternating stripes in a cross hatch pattern
Why I should win among other entries? Well, in my current job, we do not wear neckties because we are being provided with uniforms. But as an aspiring law student at the University of the East, College of Law, I will be needing suits, as well as neckties when I reached my Third year level specially during the practice court or moot court subjects. Right now, I am in my First year, Second Semester and I am hopeful that with God's blessings I can continue my studies despite all the hindrance along my way.

Thank you to Kero's Celebration and Tiecoon.com for this awesome contest.I would be very happy and proud to wear those neckties during my practice court as well as in any occasion in the months and years to come! Happy Holidays everyone!

Everyday EVEREADY Moments

When I read about the "Everyday Eveready Moments" contest at Nuffnang Philippines website, it brought me back to my younger years, elementary days to be exact in a sleepy town of Pinili, Ilocos Norte.

It was early 1990's when we evacuated from Cagayan Valley where we have our own house there, where my father cultivate a wide farmland and my mother tends to a small piggery in our backyard. It was a good and stable situation for our family until we have to evacuate due to security reasons. I was 7 years old that time.

Being an evacuee in a far away land (Cagayan Valley to Ilocos Norte is a seven hours bus travel then), even though we have relatives to help us, lead our family to a new beginning, a hard situation for everybody specially to us young children.

With no clear means to support our needs in a new environment, we have to sacrifice having no electricity for several years. At first it was really hard, mostly at night or during a bad weather. Our only refuge during those years were the battery-operated radio for news and entertainment (radio drama during those years because our radio was only AM band) and the old-fashioned flashlights (the silvery color and metal ones, no plastic or rubber flashlights back then). And of course, the only trusted and reliable batteries then and until now is EVEREADY (no fakes and china brand those times).

EVEREADY batteries have been a big part of our lives but also to our success, I am proud to say that me and my siblings consistently made good at school even though we lack electricity during our elementary days and with God's blessings we all graduated in our chosen courses in different Universities in Manila.

I still remember those days when we tend to sun-dry our Eveready batteries in our hopes to keep them producing power for our radio when we do not have money to buy for new ones... funny but most of the time it worked even for a short period of time.

I still remember those used up AAA's and AA's that we made as toys as replacement to real toys when we can not afford to buy. Sad memories but those ones made us stronger and boosted our faith to attain our dreams.

Years had passed, we no longer live in Ilocos Norte, we now have our own families but still Eveready plays a part in our lives - not anymore to operate the AM band radio or the old-fashioned metal flashlights but to give power to our emergency flashlights, emergency phone charger, voice recorder as well as digital cameras among others.

Thank you Eveready for being a part of us and for reminding us the way we have been and not to forget where we have started!

More Power!!!
